An Ontario man faces a hate-crime and an assault charge after allegedly beating up an Asian man during a basketball game at an Azusa park last year while using a racial slur, police said. The victim, a 34-year-old Hacienda Heights man, got stitches in his mouth at a hospital, Azusa police Sgt. Seth Chapman said. On Thursday, June 15, in Ontario, police arrested the 27-year-old suspect. The attack happened during a Dec. 23, 2022, basketball game at Memorial Park in the 300 block of North Orange Avenue.
